Rest.

Hi Friends! Wow. I feel like it has been ages since I last posted. So many things have happened since my last post. I graduated from college in the middle of a pandemic, my sister got married and moved out of the house, Miss Texas 2020 was postponed until 2021, and I started my first year of graduate school! With all of these life changes taking place as well as the uncertainty of navigating a “new normal,” I began to feel the stress pile on. After taking a much-needed break from social media, I decided to write this post.

If I could sum this post up in one sentence it would be this: It is okay to take a break.

We hear it all the time, “make yourself a priority,” “treat yourself,” “mental health is just as important as physical health.” Yet, when it comes to our life, we think that our productivity has a direct correlation with our worth. We criticize ourselves if we aren’t achieving new goals or pushing our limits. We have glorified busyness to a fault and we never take the time to slow down.

I don’t know about you, but I can take one look at my Facebook feed and realize just how much hurt and pain there is in my friends right now. Any way you look at it, 2020 has been a hard year for every single one of us. I am here to tell you- take a break.

Whether it is planning a small vacation from work, taking a social media hiatus, or even just taking a break from the pressure you place on yourself to be productive. Take the time to fill your heart with things that make you happy. Read the book you’ve been wanting to read, binge on Netflix, enjoy a girl’s night, or downtime with your family. We become better, more productive, human beings when we allow ourselves to rest.

Taking the time to rest is simply giving yourself grace for being a human being.

Being mindful and allowing yourself to take a step back doesn’t diminish your dreams. It doesn’t stop you from doing big, exciting, hard things. Taking the time to rest is simply giving yourself grace for being a human being. Give yourself that grace today, your future self will thank you for it!
